New CJSoTL Senior Editor
The STLHE Board of Directors and The Canadian Journal for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (CJSoTL) would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to Beth Marquis for devoting many years of volunteer service as a dedicated Senior Editor.
STLHE and CJSoTL are delighted to announce Brett McCollum, PhD as the new Senior Editor of CJSoTL.
Brett McCollum is a member of the 2019 cohort of 3M National Teaching Fellows. He is a Professor of Chemistry at Mount Royal University, where he also holds the position of Board of Governor’s Teaching Chair for Educational Leadership. McCollum is a Nexen Scholar of Teaching and Learning, the education columnist for the Canadian Institute for Chemistry, and an Associate Editor of the LibreTexts open educational resource project. He has previously served as the Chair of SoTL Canada and on the Board of Directors of the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education.
McCollum has published over 30 papers and book chapters on SoTL, chemistry education research, and muon spin spectroscopy. His research has been recognized through the ACIFA SoTL Award (2012), a Petro-Canada Young Innovator Award (2015), the MRU Undergraduate Research Supervision Award (2019), and the SAMRU Open Education Champion Award (2020).
McCollum credits discovering the CJSoTL as a young academic as foundational in his development as a SoTL scholar. He has been published in CJSoTL, as well as several other leading academic journals. He bridges two strong teaching and learning research communities: SoTL and Chemistry Education Research (CER).
McCollum will be bringing his enthusiasm for supporting others in conducting and applying SoTL, and the same collaborative and strategic approach to the role as he did to his previous roles as SoTL Canada Chair and member of the STLHE Board of Directors.
