“It was in 1981 that a group of us (Mei-Fei Elrick and Don McIntosh from Guelph, Alan Blizzard and Dale Roy from McMaster, Harry Murray and Colin Baird from Western, Ron Sheese from Toronto, and myself) decided to launch STLHE…Our hope was that the creation of a society like STLHE would provide a focus for those professors who regard teaching as their major commitment, who are anxious to explore ways to enhance teaching and learning and wish to share their own ideas with colleagues.” — Christopher Knapper, inaugural STLHE President, 1981-1988

2021 marks 40 years of STLHE; four decades of students, educators, institutions and more coming together with a shared commitment to enhancing teaching and learning in higher education.

STLHE wouldn’t have become what it is without the many people that dedicate their time, effort, and passion to this organization. Over the years, thousands of members have devoted themselves to sharing their insights and ideas for teaching excellence, educational leadership, innovation, service, and mentorship in the Canadian post-secondary sector. Help us congratulate and recognize them for the impact they have made.
