CJSoTL Call for Applications: Co-Editors

For the past 10 years, The Canadian Journal for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (CJSoTL) / La revue canadienne sur l’avancement des connaissances en enseignement et en apprentissage (RCACEA) has been a respected publication venue for advances in Higher Education teaching and learning, attracting submissions from new and established SoTL scholars. Based on its reputation for publishing high-quality scholarship, in recent years the journal has received a record number of submissions from researchers in Canada and from international contexts, reflecting an expanding emphasis on evidence-based pedagogy in post-secondary education.
To support the needs of our community for a high-quality peer-reviewed open-access journal, CJSoTL has restructured its editorial board to add new leadership positions. CJSoTL is inviting applications for Co-Editors. Successful applicants will be appointed to the role for a three-year, renewable term. Two Co-Editor positions are available.
The Co-Editors will provide editorial leadership, collaborating with the Editor-in-Chief and the Associate Editors to maintain the journal’s editorial flow and ensure the quality of CJSoTL is sustained.
Responsibilities of the Co-Editors include:
- Screening submissions to determine if they meet CJSoTL’s minimum criteria for peer review. Communicating with authors about submissions that do not meet these criteria.
- Assigning each submission to an available Associate Editor who will guide it through the review process.
- Providing support to their team of Associate Editors as needed.
- Providing editorial leadership for the journal, collaborating with the Editor-in-Chief and their Associate Editors to ensure the quality of the journal is sustained.
- Attending and participating in editorial board meetings, and in meetings of the editorial team.
- Liaising with one another, and with the Editor-in-Chief and Managing Editor, to ensure a smooth work flow, and a reasonable distribution of labour across the editorial team
The Co-Editors are supported in their responsibilities by the Editor-in-Chief, Managing Editor, and the Associate Editors.
Letters of interest from individuals wishing to be considered for the role of Co-Editor should address some or all of the following selection criteria:
- Experience in editing and publishing together with an awareness of the issues associated with editing a leading academic journal.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work well with others (e.g. joint publications, joint grants, working in a national network).
- Access to a network of academic development researchers and/or relevant practitioners who might act as referees.
- A strong publication record in higher education.
- Commitment to the goals of the journal’s parent organization, The Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education/La société pour l’advancement d la pédagogie dans l’enseignement supérieur (see the STLHE/SAPES website at www.stlhe.ca).
- The applicant must be (or become) a member of STLHE/SAPES.
- Proficiency with reading and writing in both French and English is desired, but not required.
- Some familiarity with on-line manuscript management systems is desirable.
Written applications should be no more than two pages single-spaced and they should address the selection criteria. They should include a current Curriculum Vitae and must be submitted no later than October 30, 2020 to the Editor-in-Chief, Brett McCollum, at firstname.lastname@example.org .
