2022 Christopher Knapper Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient

JULY 5, 2022 – The Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (STLHE) is pleased to present the Christopher Knapper Lifetime Achievement Award to an extraordinary individual for her significant contribution to knowledge creation and sharing in Canada’s post-secondary sector.

This year’s Christopher Knapper Lifetime Achievement Award recipient is Shannon Murray, a Professor and Senior Scholar for Innovation in Teaching and Learning at the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI).

The Christopher Knapper Lifetime Achievement Award was established in 2002 to recognize individuals who have dedicated their careers to meaningful contributions to higher education teaching, learning, and educational development.

“Dr. Murray is a Professor in the English Department at UPEI and a highly decorated teaching award winner […] Her passion lies in steering, mentoring, and advocating for others in order to make their work visible, valued, and celebrated. In a recent work, Shannon quotes director Athena Stevens, who – when asked why we keep doing Shakespeare – says ‘Because he was a human being who saw the full humanity in other human beings’ – no matter how small their roles seem to be. Shannon models that humanity every day – and shows us a way forward, creating a world ‘where our leaders can remain their best selves and still lead us’ (Murray 2020).”

STLHE officially congratulated Dr. Murray as the recipient of the Christopher Knapper Lifetime Achievement Award at the STLHE Annual Conference in June 2022.
