CJSoTL Production Editor | Call for Applications

The Canadian Journal for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (CJSoTL) / La revue canadienne sur l’avancement des connaissances en enseignement et en apprentissage (RCACEA) is an established publication venue for advances in HiEd teaching and learning, attracting submissions from new and established SoTL scholars.
Based on its reputation for publishing high-quality scholarship, the journal continues to be a dissemination venue of choice for researchers in Canada and from international contexts, reflecting an expanding emphasis on evidence-based pedagogy in post-secondary education. We remain committed to open-access publishing, eliminating barriers for researchers to publish and to access publications.
The Journal relies on a team of dedicated scholars to fulfill our mission. As a volunteer organization, we draw strength from the contributions of our community.
We invite you to get involved with the journal through the following role:
- Production Editor
Production Editor
The Production Editor is a new role within the editorial team. They will collaborate closely with the Managing Editor to maintain the journal’s editorial flow and ensure the quality of CJSoTL is sustained.
Responsibilities of the Production Editor include:
- Formatting articles for publication, working with the Editorial Assistant
- Doing final, minor copy editing for pre-publication articles as needed
- Sending article titles, abstracts, and key words for translation
- Working with authors on any final, minor revisions of their articles
- Securing authors’ approval for publication of their articles
- Collecting authors’ signatures on the licensing agreement
- Responding to authors’ emails while their articles are in the production process
- Coordinating with the Editor-in-Chief and Co-Editors on the introduction for an issue of the journal
- Publishing three issues of the journal a year, with approximately 20 articles an issue, in OJS, the editorial management software used by the journal
The Production Editor is invited to attend and participate in Editorial Board Meetings. They are supported in their responsibilities by the Editor-in-Chief, Co-Editors, the Managing Editor, and the Editorial Assistant.
The workload of the Production Editor varies in response to submission rates and the publication cycle. The Production Editor should be prepared to devote an average of 3 hours of service per week toward their duties.
Successful applicants will be appointed to the role for a three-year, renewable term.

Statement of Interest (no more than two pages single-spaced), along with a current Curriculum Vitae, should be submitted to the Editor-in-Chief, Brett McCollum (bmccollum@tru.ca) using the email subject line “Application to join CJSoTL Editorial Team”. Review of applications will begin at the end of June 2025.
A statement of Interest for the role of Production Editor should address the following selection criteria:
Essential:
- Singular attention to detail.
- Exceptional organizational skills.
- Strong written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work well with others (e.g. joint publications, joint grants, working in a national network).
- Commitment to the goals of the journal’s parent organization, The Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education/La société pour l’advancement d la pédagogie dans l’enseignement supérieur (see the STLHE/SAPES website at www.stlhe.ca).
- The applicant must be (or become) a member of STLHE/SAPES.
- Proficiency with reading and writing in one or both of the official languages of STLHE/SAPES: French and English.
Desirable:
- Experience conducting and disseminating scholarship of teaching and learning
- Familiarity with the APA formatting and citation style as outlined in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA), 7th Edition
- Experience serving as a reviewer for an academic journal.
- Some familiarity with online manuscript management systems is desirable
