3M_Fellows_250Renewal of 3M National Teaching Fellowship & A Welcome to Liisa Sheldrick
The STLHE Board is happy to announce the three year renewal (2015-2017) of 3M Canada’s support for the National Teaching Fellowship. The three year term of the award covers a period marking important anniversaries of our partnership with 3M. At STLHE 2015 in Vancouver we will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the agreement and at STLHE 2016 we will welcome the 30th cohort of Fellows. We are also looking forward to working with Liisa Sheldrick who is the new Marketing and Communications Manager whose responsibilities include 3M’s sponsorship of the STLHE awards through 3M Gives.

New blood, you say: well of course we all need new blood. There’s nothing quite like it for stimulating the brain. I got some new blood myself, a transfusion, just last semester. It totally rejuvenated me. I took a month off teaching, stayed home, and did some real work in the garden. What? You mean new faculty? No, we don’t need any of them: much too young and inexperienced. Don’t need new blood when you’ve still got me: I’m full of it.

AcademicsWithout_250Academics Without Borders (AWB) –
Aga Khan University: Remote Faculty Mentorship Volunteer Opportunity

STLHE partner, AWB, is looking for six faculty volunteer mentors, two each in Medicine and Education, one in Nursing and another in Journalism and Communication and it’s preferable that mentors have expertise in the fields in which they are mentoring. Volunteers will provide remote mentorship of faculty for pedagogical support and will communicate with mentees virtually via skype, webex, emails and other means. The hope is for each mentoring relationship to last about three years and the volunteer hours required will depend upon the outputs specified in the mentorship agreements. AWB has asked us to bring this project to the attention of STLHE members. Use this link for additional information and instructions on how to apply for this volunteer opportunity. Deadline for application is April 1, 2015.

Blast_250Email Blasts – an update
At the face-to-face STLHE Board meeting in Winnipeg on February 14th a decision was made to make the pilot project of email blasts a permanent part of STLHE’s communication strategy with its members. Produced by the Secretary of the Society, the blasts will bring to your attention events, dates, and deadlines important to STLHE members by providing a brief summary and a link to more comprehensive information on the topic either on the STLHE or related websites. Our hope is to produce a blast each month and if you have a link or suggestion please contact the STLHE Secretary. Remember, executive summaries of STLHE Board meetings and an archive of previous email blasts are available on the STLHE web site. .

BlastSTLHE2015STLHE 2015 – an update
The excitement around STLHE 2015 is mounting with 448 proposals received and 230 volunteers to review the proposals! The review process is currently underway and we aim to have the pre-conference session schedule and registration open by Friday, March 13. All other proposal submitters will be contacted soon after that date. Some notable tidbits: we have 758 unique authors with 160 also serving as reviewers. While the majority of proposals are from Canadian first authors, we have international submissions from the US, UK, AUS, NZ and FR. Stay tuned to our website in March for more details.
