DecBlast_Composite3Holiday wishes from STLHE President Robert Lapp
When we last met in Kingston, it was the summer solstice. Six months later, as « the darkest evening of the year » approaches, may the memories of last June keep you warm and light your way to Vancouver in 2015! This season also offers us a chance to reflect on the many ways that hope is kept alive in our daily work. I personally am grateful for the countless volunteer hours given by members of STLHE to keep this unique space of vision and collaboration open and alive. Together, we work at the « growing tip » of our culture, deepening the quality of student learning and building a community of evidence-based teaching practices. See you at EDC 2015 in Winnipeg and STLHE 2015 in Vancouver!

TGSA STLHE Preconference Session
STLHE’s Teaching and Graduate Student Advancement Special Interest Group seeks to encourage TA and Graduate student development in Canada and to highlight initiatives to develop teaching skills and other professional skills in Graduate students. Interested in being part of the TGSA preconference on Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at STLHE 2015 in Vancouver? Information on selection of proposals is available with a deadline for submissions on January 16, 2015 11:59 PST.

2014 3M Teaching Fellows retreat
Each year the new cohort of 3M Fellows gathers for a few days of reflection on the 3M Fellowship, teaching and student learning – the 3M Fellows retreat in Banff. Drop by the 3M Council website for a photo album of those snowy few days this past November and November’s past.

STLHE 2017 – Atlantic Canada
The geographic pattern for the Annual STLHE Conference is Eastern and Western Canada alternating with our get together in Central Canada (Ontario or Quebec). The STLHE Board has asked our Atlantic Canadian colleagues to consider a proposal from Universities and Colleges there to host STLHE 2017 during Canada’s 150th birthday. The conference manual explains how to put a proposal together by the May 1, 2015 deadline for submissions.

Best wishes and our thanks to 3M’s Carla McFarlane
Over the past couple of years Carla has taken the reins from Greg Snow and been our point person at 3M, STLHE’s most generous partner, for the National Teaching Fellows and National Student Fellows Program. She has been instrumental in making STLHE one of six partners recognized in the 3M Canada Gives program (3MGives poster). Carla will be moving to a new position at 3M; join us in congratulating her on her promotion and giving a special thank-you for her infectious enthusiasm for the awards program.

Upcoming dates and deadlines:

Jon Houseman
Secretary, STLHE
