3M National Teaching Fellowships, Program Coordinator – Call for Applications

Overview

The Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (STLHE) is seeking applications from qualified individuals interested in the volunteer position of Program Coordinator, 3M National Teaching Fellowships. Co-sponsored by STLHE and 3M Canada, the Fellowships recognize faculty members at Canadian post-secondary institutions for their exceptional contributions to teaching, learning and educational leadership. The Program Coordinator both manages the Fellowship throughout the year, recognizing that some responsibilities may become more intense prior to deadlines and upcoming events, and liaises with the STLHE Awards Chair, who has oversight of all STLHE award programs. Highlights

  • Chairs the Selection Committee meeting, and assists with adjudicating the process to award up to ten Fellowships annually.
  • Recruits the adjudicators and communicates all aspects of the adjudication process to them.
  • Provides detailed feedback to unsuccessful nominators and nominees.
  • Updates and distributes the Call for Nominations, in consultation with the selection committee, the 3M Council, and the STLHE Board.
  • Writes and documents all publicity-related material, including promotional materials for University Affairs and the announcements about the recipients for the media.
  • Works with the media sponsor to prepare the first announcement.
  • Organise the retreat and acquaints the cohort with their facilitator for a memorable retreat experience.
  • Attends the annual STLHE conference and organizes the “Beginning the Journey” lunch for new Fellows.
  • Cultivates the ongoing relationship with program sponsors, i.e. 3M Canada and Maclean’s
  • Participates in monthly meetings of the executive of the Council of 3M National Fellows for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education and seeks their advice on special projects.
  • Ensures the availability of new Fellows to be present at the annual STLHE conference, Awards Ceremony, dinner and other related activities
  • Oversees the program budget, including the preparation of an annual report that documents and itemizes program expenditures
  • Writes bi-annual reports for the STLHE Board of Directors and submits as requested via the STLHE Awards Chair.
  • Liaises with the STLHE conference organizers to arrange the presentation ceremony and other program related activities associated with the conference (refer to the STLHE conference manual).
  • Works closely with the STLHE Administrator in all aspects of running the program.
  • Consults with, and reports to, the STLHE Awards Chair.

Criteria for Applicants

  • STLHE member-in-good-standing
  • Familiarity with the 3M selection process
  • Strong facilitation and project management skills
  • Experience with using Dropbox
  • Suitable administrative and budget experience
  • Willingness to commit the time necessary to achieve the goals of the 3M NTF Program
  • Ability to work on an ongoing basis with the STLHE Awards Chair, the STLHE Board of Directors, 3M Canada, and Maclean’s Magazine
  • Work with the Council of 3M National Fellows for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education
  • Bilingualism is an asset.

Program Coordinator Supports

  • Administrative support of the STLHE Administrator
  • Access to tools and applications subscribed to by STLHE (e.g., WebEx – online meetings; Dropbox – file management, other)
  • Knowledge and expertise of previous program coordinator through a year of side-by-side mentorship
  • Ongoing support of the current STLHE Awards Chair
  • Budget support of the STLHE Treasurer

Term of Appointment—The term of each appointment is four years, beginning November 2017 and ending November 2021. The first year will be spent shadowing the current Program Coordinator.
