In this email blast: STLHE 2016 Conference, New members of the Board, TAGSA Award – Call for submissions, and Upcoming dates and deadlines.

SWebGraphic_350TLHE 2016 Conference: The full conference program will be on the web site by May 13th so take a look at all the terrific presentations that will be offered. The Conference is now full, with over 750 educators from across Canada and around the world participating in discussions of innovation in higher education, and celebrating the 30th anniversary of the 3M Teaching Fellowship. There are many ways to be part of the conference dialogue if you cannot attend. Follow us on twitter @STLHE2016 or join the discussion using #STLHE16. Bus tours are also filling – the deadline for the Stratford Festival trip is May 24th, and the Niagara Falls tour deadline is June 7th, so don’t miss out if you want to take part. As well, we have a new opportunity with Columbia Sportswear, a new sponsor this year. Columbia is offering two free shopping bus trips to their London employee discount outlet – sign up information is now on the conference web site under Registration – Book A Tour.

NewBoard_300New members of the Board: Robert , STLHE president, welcomed Valerie Lopes (left) and Janice Miller-Young (middle) to the STLHE Board at its meeting on April 8th 2016. Valerie has been appointed as Chair of the Standing Committee for Awards and will complete the vacated term ending June 2018. Janice joins us as the Chair of the Standing Committee for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Canada. That’s a cumbersome title but it’s only temporary. The new standing committee will disappear when the members at the AGM approve the policy creating the SoTL Canada constituency. On another note, the College Sector Educators SIG has become the advisory body to Tim Loblaw (right), Chair of the Standing Committee for College Advocacy, and when the new policies are approved we will have a fourth constituency College Sector Educators Community replacing the Standing Committee. Keep up on Board news by reading the Executive summaries reported on the STLHE web site.

Call for TAGSA Executive nominations: The Teaching Assistant and Graduate Student Advancement (TAGSA) Special Interest Group (SIG) of the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (STLHE) will recognize a graduate student who facilitates the best conference student-led session at the annual STLHE conference. Submissions should be sent with “TAGSA Award for Best Conference Session Led by a Graduate Student” in the subject line no later than June 10, 2016 to tagsa@stlhe.ca. Adjudication criteria will be forwarded to each applicant before the conference. Use this link for more information regarding TAGSA and the award.

Upcoming dates and deadlines:

Jon Houseman
Secretary, STLHE.
