HEQCO_250HEQCO’s 6th Annual Conference: STLHE is a sponsor of the upcoming HEQCO’s (Higher Education Quality Council of Ontario) sixth annual conference Transitions: Learning across Borders, Sectors, and Silos to be held at the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto from March 23-24, 2016. The two-day conference includes over 25 sessions and more than 60 speakers on how our education sectors could work together to improve educational access, enhance quality and ensure that Canadians have the knowledge and skills they need for success. It’s time for a national conversation and the hope of HEQCO is that this conference will start this much needed conversation. Early bird registration, $250, opened November 10th and registration increases on January 1, 2016 to $350.

STLHE Awards season has started: STLHE takes special pride in its awards program and late Fall is when many of the calls for nominations for STLHE awards are sent out to our members. First out of the gate is the call for nominations for the 3M National Student Fellowship with its deadline of January 16th 2015. The College Sector Educator Award is due on February 19th 2016 and last, but by far not least, on the list is the Brightspace Innovation Award in Teaching and Learning. Nomination files for the Brightspace award have to be submitted by March 2nd 2016. Follow the links to find out more about the award and how to prepare a nomination file for deserving candidates.

WebGraphic_250widthSTLHE 2016: The Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education Annual Conference is being held in London, Ontario on June 21-24, 2016, co-hosted by Western University and Fanshawe College with the theme of “Empowering Learners: Effecting Change”. Proposals from faculty, staff and students for the Conference and Pre-conference are now being accepted and the deadline for submission is January 6th 2016. In addition to research, poster and interactive sessions, presenters may want to consider lightning or Pecha Kucha presentations.

SotL_Canada_225CJSoTL: STLHE’s Canadian Journal for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning is looking for not just one, but three Associate editors! The new Associate editors will work closely with Senior editors Beth Marquis and Ken Meadows to guide accepted manuscripts through the journal’s peer review and prepublication processes. These are three-year appointments; and being an associate editor is a great way to learn about the Society’s Journals. If you are interested contact either of the Senior editors for more information on submitting your application by January 18, 2016.

Issotl_250ISSoTL Update: The ISSoTL (International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning) file has been very active over the last few months. A strong Canadian contingent travelled to Melbourne Australia for ISSoTL’s annual Conference “Leading Learning and the Scholarship of Teaching” and our President, Robert Lapp represented STLHE at the meetings. Our SIG, SoTL Canada, asked Robert and Natasha Kenny to summarize their take-aways from the conference and you can use this link to read them. Even more exciting is that our SIG has landed the 2017 conference that will take place in Calgary – Congratulations to everyone at SoTL Canada on a job well done!
