2014 Annual Report from President Robert Lapp

2014 has been a year of many remarkable transitions at STLHE, and these changes have revealed once again how solid is the core of values and commitments within this impressively diverse Society of dedicated individuals and institutions. Improving the depth and quality of student learning in post-secondary education, while advancing the cause of evidence-based teaching practices, remains firmly at the forefront of all our endeavours, and it is my mandate as President to make the continued realization of these values sustainable into the future through transparent, consultative leadership and by expanding our membership base even more deeply in to all sectors of teachers and learners in Higher Education. — Read more

STLHE Special Interest Groups (SIGs)
STLHE is home to three Special Interest Groups, or SIGs. The College Sector Educators Community (CSEC) SIG focuses on the ongoing changes in the college sector across Canada and examines issues and factors specific to the college context. The Teaching Assistants and Grad Students Advancement (TAGSA) SIG raises the profile of TA and graduate student development by connecting graduate students with faculty members and administrators to help them identify the skills of an academic or private or public researcher. The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Canada SIG has at its core the goal of improving student learning by providing SoTL scholars with a community to share findings and challenges. SIGs or governed by their executive and report to the STLHE Board of Directors through the Chair of the Sponsorships standing committee. STLHE members are invited to join any of the SIGs that match their own interests or if a group of members feel there is a need for a new SIG, to create it.

Magna online seminars
Each semester, MAGNA, an STLHE partner, offers a variety of online seminars that address critical issues facing faculty and administrators. These live, interactive sessions feature leading educators and include opportunities for a healthy exchange of ideas between participants. The current list of seminars is available on the STLHE web site and for every STLHE member that uses our links to the seminars MAGNA contributes to STLHE. And remember: there’s never a charge for inviting colleagues to sit in and watch with you!
