3MNSF Awards Coordinator

Overview –The 3M National Student Fellowship (3MNSF) program coordinator is an STLHE member appointed to this position for a period of 3 years, with an additional year mentoring the incoming coordinator. This individual understands the ethos of the 3MNSF and has strong facilitative skills, administrative and budget experience, and is willing to commit the time and devotion necessary to achieve the goals of the 3MNSF.

Throughout the year the 3MNSF Coordinator oversees and manages all aspects of the 3MNSF Program as noted below. To achieve these goals the coordinator is Chair of the 3MNSF Award Sub-Committee and is responsible for the call for nominations, coordination of the selection process, and coordinating with local STLHE Conference Committee events associated with the award and for preparing the students for the annual STLHE conference.

  • Work closely throughout the year with the STLHE Administrator and the Awards Chair on all aspects of the NSF Program including budget forecasting and preparation;
  • Is a member of and attends meetings of the STLHE Awards Committee and (ex officio) the Executive of the 3M Council of National Teaching Fellows which provides advice and guidance from the Council on all aspects of the 3MNSF Program;
  • Reports to and prepares regular updates as well as an annual report for 3M, and the Awards Chair and the STLHE Board of Directors, works closely with the Awards and Partnerships Chairs to build and maintain a strong relationship with Program’s sponsor – 3M;
  • Is a spokesperson for the promoting the 3MNSF program and the mission and values of STLHE.
Selection of New Student Fellows
  • Prepares and distributes materials for the Nomination of 3M National Student Fellows including: revisions to the the call for nominations, advertisements and web-related information;
  • Identifies and nominates the Awards Sub-Committee for the STLHE’s Board approval;
  • Is Chair of the 3MNSF Awards Sub-Committee and overseas the distribution of nomination files, guidelines and tools to assist with the selection, and plans the adjudication meetings;
  • In conjunction with the Awards Sub-Committee notifies and writes citations for successful nominees and prepares feedback for unsuccessful nominees. In conjunction with the STLHE administrator insures appropriate media coverage for new cohort of 3M Student Fellows by preparing press releases and related materials including conference banquet brochure;
  • Corresponds with the new cohort of 3M Student Fellows.
STLHE National Conference Including the Retreat and Student Plenary
  • Attends the STLHE Annual Conference and works closely with the local program committee and STLHE Awards Chair on program related activities;
  • Oversees the 3MNSF retreat and plenary but is not a facilitator or attendee/participant;
  • In consultation with the Awards Chair identifies suitable facilitators for consideration by the STLHE Board’s approval for the retreat;
  • Selects a spokesperson for the new cohort to make an address at the awards ceremony.
