Curriculum Mapping

Action Group

Overview:  The curriculum mapping action group has initiated a national conversation about curriculum mapping, and to gather and share information and best practices to inform policy and practice across the Canadian postsecondary sector. This group will provide outreach and opportunities for resource development within the EDC community. It will contribute to and complement the work of a multi-phase research study led by members of the EDC, in its early stages of development, to describe curriculum mapping on a national scale. We will define the terminology and identify the scope of its applications. In addition, it aims to collect and analyze stakeholder experiences, and assess its impact, all with a view to informing theory, policy and practice. Responding to what has been described as the need for a scholarship of curriculum practice—that is, a scholarly or action-based research approach to curriculum practice grounded in question posing, data gathering, analysis and application (Christensen Hughes, 2007)—the action group will contribute to research addressing a gap in the scant published literature on curriculum mapping.
