The aim of these collaborative projects is to enhance student engagement and success through developing high impact activities within and between Faculties.

Teaching and Learning with Technology Grants

  • Type 1—up to $5000.
    Eligibility: full-time faculty
  • Type 2—up to $2000.
    Eligibility: full and part-time faculty and limited-term faculty with at least one year remaining in their contract term

The grants are intended to encourage and support faculty members who are seeking new and innovative ways to incorporate technology into their teaching practice that result in a design or re-design of a course or curriculum.

Type 1—for projects that involve course/curriculum design or redesign, affect a high proportion of students, and include a plan to evaluate the project outcomes. Priority will be given to projects that have the potential for application beyond a single course.

Type —for projects that provide direct learning benefit to students and have the potential for a long-term benefit in a particular course or program

Preference will be given to projects that can be completed within one year and that can be fully funded by the awarded grant plus any necessary additional funding from other sources

  • Lifetime appointment as a McMaster University Teaching Fellow.
  • Up to $40,000 to work on a teaching & learning project.
  • Release from a portion of the Fellow’s typical faculty responsibilities to allow him/her to spend time working on the project.
  • Quality & eligibility of proposed project (including potential impact on student learning).
  • Evidence of candidate’s ability to complete project successfully.
  • Evidence of candidate’s active engagement in teaching & learning and of his/her potential to serve as an educational leader.
  • Quality of proposed contributions to teaching & learning at McMaster beyond the duration of the initial project.

Petro-Canada Young Innovator Award

  • campus-wide recognition for innovative research achievement by a new faculty member; and
  • $25,000 support towards a project to actively involve undergraduate students in research.

  • Quality of undergraduate project proposal (including innovativeness and potential impact on student learning)

  • Full Grants $5000 – $15000 per year for 2 years maximum
  • “The purpose of the LITE grants is to provide support for experimenting with and investigating innovative approaches to teaching that aim to foster deep student learning and enhance teaching at the University of Waterloo. The program replaces the LIF/PIF grant scheme and is composed of two kinds of grants: LITE Seed Grants and LITE Full Grants.”
