Executive

Chair
Roles and Responsibilities
Nicola Simmons
Research and Evaluation Consultant, Centre for Teaching Excellence, University of Waterloo

The EDC Chair works collaboratively with the EDC Executive to uphold the EDC bylaws.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Providing overall leadership.
  • Liaising with STLHE through membership on the STLHE Board of Directors (monthly teleconferences of two-hours each).
  • Raising the profile of faculty development.
  • Advocating for EDC within STLHE and beyond.
  • Coordinating a wide variety of special faculty development projects as they arise.
  • Holding monthly teleconferences with the EDC Executive, usually organized through the chair’s department or centre as appropriate and similarly maintaining the Exec listserv for easier communication (in this regard needs the support of the institution where he/she is employed).
  • Ensuring transparency of Caucus processes and procedures.
  • Facilitating consultation with the membership through open communication.
  • Liaising closely with other Caucus officers, offering backup assistance and ensuring that their roles and responsibilities fall within the overall goals and direction of the Caucus as established by the membership.
  • Member of the 3M National Teaching Fellowships Selection Committee which meets intensively for four days each January in Montreal. A large number of binders are received for review in December in preparation for this.
  • Representing EDC at a variety of national/international teaching and learning related events


Vice-Chair (Professional Development)
Roles and Responsibilities

The Vice-Chair, Professional Development works collaboratively with the EDC Executive to uphold the EDC Bylaws and create and deliver professional development for EDC members.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Ensuring that we follow the EDC professional development living plan in terms of our organization and delivery; informing the membership about this progress; and bringing their voices to its ongoing evolution.
  • As chair of the academic program for the EDC winter conference, overseeing all aspects of the Call for Proposals and review process; organizing reviewers' findings and make final decisions on successful proposals; communicating outcomes with proposers and collecting their final text incorporating reviewers' suggestions; preparing final academic program text for conference host to include in hard-copy and web programs; and inviting one pre-conference workshop and coordinating with conference host to lead another pre-conference workshop.
  • As chair of EDC grants project, overseeing all aspects of the Call for Proposals and review process; organizing reviewers findings and making final decisions on successful proposals; communicating outcomes with proposers and collecting signed contracts from successful grant holders; coordinating payment of grant funds; and working with successful grant holders as they write their interim and final reports for posting to the EDC website.
  • Communicating with EDC members, in person at conferences, and by email at other times of the year, on various aspects of educational development; and bringing their interests, queries and comments to the executive, to the EDC conference theme and pre-conference workshop sessions, and to the professional development sessions at EDC and STLHE conferences.
  • Organizing and leading a professional development session at the General Meeting (EDC Conference) and Annual General Meeting (STLHE Conference).
  • Providing input and direction to the executive on EDC activities (e.g. annual conference, budget, resource development, special projects, etc.).
  • As needed, Chairing/participating on subcommittees as they related to role of Vice-Chair, Professional Development.

 


Vice-Chair (Communications)
Roles and Responsibilities
Jeanette McDonald
Manager: Educational Development, Office of Teaching Support Services, Wilfrid Laurier University

The Vice-Chair Communications works collaboratively with the EDC Executive to uphold the EDC Bylaws.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • monitoring and maintaining the national EDC listserv including the addition/removal of list members.
  • providing input and direction to the executive on EDC activities (e.g., grant program, annual conference, budget, resource development, special projects, etc.). 
  • communicating updates, reminders, notices, etc. from the executive and the membership to the ED community via the EDC listserv (or other means) regarding ED related activities.
  • updating and maintaining EDC website.
  • working with the STLHE administrator to facilitate EDC activities/Bylaws (e.g., e-votes, elections, etc.).
  • serving as liaison between the EDC membership and EDC executive (e.g., bring questions/concerns/ requests forward to executive from EDC members).
  • expanding/developing resources available to the ED community.
  • chairing/participating on subcommittees as they related to the role of VC Communications.


Treasurer
Roles and Responsibilities
Janice MacMillan
Manager, Faculty Development, Durham College

The Treasurer works collaboratively with the EDC Executive to uphold the EDC Bylaws.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Managing the finances of the Caucus.
  • Preparing a draft budget in consultation with the EDC Executive.
  • Facilitating the membership approval process for the budget.
  • Communicating with the STLHE Administrator throughout the budget year regarding expenses and revenues.
  • Receiving and verifying financial documents from the STLHE Administrator.
  • Providing a financial update at EDC Executive meetings.
  • Working with the coordinator of the EDC Grants program as well at the EDC Conference Coordinator(s) regarding financial matters related to these two initiatives.
  • Providing a financial update for the membership at the General Meeting as well as and the Annual General Meeting.
  • Representing EDC as a member of the STLHE Finance Committee that meets quarterly to discuss the Society's finances.

 


Secretary
Roles and Responsibilities
Ruth Rodgers
Teaching & Learning Specialist, Centre for Academic Excellence and Innovation, Durham College/UOIT

The Secretary works collaboratively with the EDC Executive to uphold the EDC Bylaws.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Producing, collecting, and archiving Caucus documents.
  • Preparing meeting minutes of the Executive as well as the annual general meeting (AGM) and general meeting (GM) of the EDC.
  • Forwarding meeting minutes of the Executive, GM and AGM to the Vice-Chair, Communications for posting on the EDC website.
  • Maintaining the EDC membership list.
  • Campaigning for and monitoring changes in EDC membership status.
  • Supporting the Chair in the production of agendas for the GM and AGM, and other EDC Executive members in document production and management as needed.
