arrow Special Events during the 2007 STLHE Conference

When you register for June's STLHE Conference in Edmonton, be sure to register for WEDNESDAY's sessions. Our 3M Annual Assembly is scheduled for that day, June 13, 1:00 to 5:00 pm—not Saturday.  For that assembly, you are invited to join one of these workshops:

  • "Narratives", with Guy Allen and Mark Weisberg

What Happened? Making Good Narrative Out of Teaching Experiences

Conventional academic discourse is anti-narrative, anti-story. In this rebel workshop we make stories from things we have experienced or observed in our teaching. Mark Weisberg and Guy Allen will present examples of good narratives and offer guidance in how to write them. We will take 30 minutes to write. We will read our stories and talk about them. We will observe how powerfully narrative shows us and our experience to others—and to ourselves. When we make stories, we construct a place people can enter and experience for themselves.

    OR
  • "Exploring Silence", with Clarissa Green (this is the theme of our new book)

Silence(s) in teaching and learning is usually a verbal, wordy process. Working creatively with the space between, around and underneath words enriches and expands opportunities to reach our students. This workshop explores the effective use of silence(s) in the classroom and includes opportunities to practice.
  • At the STLHE Conference, the Selection Committee will be explaining its processes—How exactly are the 3M National Teaching Fellows chosen? Bring your questions and comments.
  • The STLHE Banquet is scheduled for Thursday evening, June 14th. The 2007 3M National Teaching Fellows will be introduced.
  • The dinner for 3M National Teaching Fellows will be held Friday, June 15th. More details as they become available.
arrow Optional Membership Fees—Council of 3M National Teaching Fellows

We have enacted an option of contributing the equivalent of STLHE membership fees to support the work of the 3M Council Executive Team.

When you register for the Conference, you will have the option of paying voluntary fees. If you are unable to attend the Conference, you can still make a contribution by completing the online membership form.

arrow Silence in Teaching and Learning
