The STLHE is committed to advancing the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning is characterized as a systematic approach to critical reflection and/or iinquiry on an aspect of teaching and learning, the outcomes of which are shared with our academic communities to enhance our collective knowledge of teaching and learning (Cambridge, 2001; Martin, Benjamin, Prosser, & Trigwell, 1999). In support of this objective, STLHE advocates for the development and recognition of the scholarship of teaching and llearning across disciplines, organizes an annual conference and various pedagogical publications to support the dissemination of Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, facilitates research initiatives involving the Society, and administers several national awards to recognize excellence in the practice and scholarship of post-secondary teaching and learning.
The STLHE is an essential national voice and advocate for enhancing the quality of teaching and learning in Canada. In the pursuit of this goal, STLHE identifies a member of its Board of Directors to help coordinate advocacy efforts and report to the Board of Directors on developments and progress. This person works closely with the Board of Director's Public Relations officer and others in STLHE whose mandates are closely related to advocacy.
STLHE is committed to embracing the richness and diversity of the Canadian population and responding to its many and varied points of view. In particular, we endeavour to ensure support for and involvement of francophone colleagues as well as representation of those who make up the post-secondary community—faculty, staff, administrators, and students.
The STLHE is a national evolving organisation whose strength and vision is rooted in the active, dynamic collaboration of current and future partners. Presently the STLHE has important, diverse partnerships and working relationships with a variety of organisations and initiatives.
