Christopher Knapper Lifetime Achievement Award

Since 1972, Magna Publications has supported higher education by providing educational resources for students, faculty, and administrators. The company currently publishes eleven higher education newsletters including The Teaching Professor, manages numerous online seminars, and holds in-person conferences for student leaders (The National Conference on Student Leadership) and faculty (The Teaching Professor Conference).

In 2007, Magna Publications became the co-sponsor of the Christopher Knapper Lifetime Achievement Award. 


History

In 2002, STLHE created this award to honour individuals who have, over their career, made significant contributions to teaching, learning and educational development in Canadian higher education.  The first recipient, Christopher Knapper, was founding president of STLHE and a member of the the Society's Board of Directors for 20 years.

Call for Nominations

The call for nominations is circulated to all STLHE members, posted to the STLHE and IDO listservs, and included in the February issue of the STLHE newsletter.

  • Any member of the Society may make a nomination.
  • The nomination should comprise one or two paragraphs summarizing the nominee's career contributions and reasons why he or she merits the Award. The Selection Committee may ask for a longer brief, if needed.
  • Service to the Society will be an important factor considered by the Selection Committee. 
  • Nominees will normally, but not necessarily, be a member of STLHE..

Selection Procedure

Nominations will be reviewed by a sub-committee appointed by the STLHE Board of Directors, and comprising one or more past-presidents of STLHE, the Teaching Awards Chair, and two other long-serving members of the Society. Each Committee member will serve for a minimum of two years.

Nature of Award

The Award comprises a citation and a small gift presented at the annual conference of the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (STLHE). The 2010 recipient will be announced at the STLHE Conference Banquet on Friday, June 25, 2010.

The recipient will also be invited to make a presentation during STLHE 2011 at the University of Saskatchewan.  Travel expenses to this Conference will be paid by the sponsors.
