Walker’s Wednesday Wanuskewin Walkabout
(Limited to 25 participants)
Presented by Ernie Walker, 2007 3M Fellow

  • Ernie will meet us at the entrance, taking us info the interpretation centre, with a cleansing smudging ceremony, then down into the valley.
  • In the valley, Ernie is teaching an undergraduate class, conducting an archaeological dig. Each student in the class will be assigned a Fellow, and the students will teach you what to do, and why.   his will be a teaching and learning experience, at a major site, sacred to First Nations people of the plains, with undergraduates and their professor.
  • WEAR CASUAL CLOTHES AND GOOD WALKING SHOES.
  • We will be accompanied by First Nations staff and an Elder during the whole visit.  Much of the commentary will be theirs.
  • After class, we will return to the main building for refreshments and a tour of the artifacts, art gallery, and other elements of the centre.  Again, First Nations staff will be the primary guides.
  • There will be an outdoor exhibition of Plains Nations traditional dancing, accompanied by drummers, again, with commentary by the performers and the staff.
  • Return to your hotel to freshen up in time for the STLHE welcoming reception on campus.
