2012 Media and Publicity
The 2012 cohort presented a plenary session at STLHE 2012 in Montreal and the paper from that presentation was published in Collected Essays on Teaching and Learning (CELT) volume 6, article 25.
The following is a summary of the press and media releases of the inaugural cohort of 3M National Student Fellows:
Cameron Bell and Selena Demenoff
University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC)
Cameron Bell, a third year Environmental Studies student, and Selena Demenoff, a third year Health Sciences student, are both undergraduate students at the University of Northern British Columbia. Since winning the 3M National Student Fellowship award, they have been featured in a number of media coverages.
The first was from the UNBC Newsroom. Interviews were conducted with each of these two recipients. The first of the two interviews Cameron Bell did for their local television station CKPG News. The second interview features the dynamic duo front and centre in the Prince George Citizen. Selena Demenoff’s hometown of Grand Forks printed a feature article about her award in the community’s local newspaper the Grand Forks Gazette.
Ray Charles (Chuck) Howard
Chuck Howard, an economics student at Ryerson University in Toronto, Ontario has spent much of his time as an undergraduate student outside of the university. His travels have taken him to Rwanda, the United Kingdom, Malawi, and Vietnam to name but a few. To read further about Chuck’s achievements and experiences abroad, please visit the following links:

University of Guelph
Jolène is an Arts and Science student at the University of Guelph, Ontario, studying international development, biology and economics. Her achievement has been recognized in the University of Guelph’s Campus Bulletin.
Johanna Lewis and Mimi Liu
University of Toronto
Johanna Lewis and Mimi Liu are both students at the University of Toronto. Johanna studies global health and women and gender studies at Victoria’s College and is an advocate for universities as spaces for critical thought tied to action for the public good. Liu is an international relations and peace and conflict studies student at U of T’s Trinity College.
Sarah Nichols is completing a Bachelor of Commerce degree at the University of Carleton in Ontario.

John Alexander (Alex) Pritz and Pascal Genest-Richard
Pascal and Alex are both students at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec. Alex is in the School of the Environment; Ecological Determinants of Health and in addition to becoming a 3M National Student Fellow, he has also received a Dalai Lama Fellowship. Pascal Genest-Richard is in Bioresource Engineering.
University of Waterloo
Alannah Robinson is an Honours student in the Recreation and Leisure Co-op program at the University of Waterloo in Ontario. After winning the 3M National Student Fellowship Award from the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education, the director from Council of Ontario Universities (COU) personally invited her to a “Toast to Teaching Excellence” reception to recognize her work and winning. She was also featured in the University of Waterloo’s Daily Bulletin.
